This module introduces participants to the principles of creating a well-structured database for analysis, focusing on data types, formats, and standardization.  Participants will be able to create a clean and organized database in Excel, ready for data extraction and analysis.

• Database principles, including primary keys
• Data cleaning and standardization criteria, including fields and headers
• Excel menu functions for text to columns, date formatting, naming ranges, and table formats

Module 2 · Creating datasets for visualization

This module introduces data extraction techniques using Excel formulas and pivot tables to create datasets ready for visualization.  Participants will be able to extract arrange and structure the data from their databases using formulas and pivot tables to create new datasets for analysis and visualization.

• Different types of data extraction methods including formula-based and pivot table-based approaches
• Excel formulas, specifically lookup and index functions
• Pivot table capabilities for data aggregation and filtering
