According to Wikipedia, marketing strategy can be defined as a long-term, forward-looking approach and an overall game plan of any organization or any business with the fundamental goal of achieving a sustainable competitive advantage by understanding the needs and wants of customers.
Basically a good marketing strategy will let you find the right audience and launch your product effectively meanwhile at the same time you will be able to increase sales for your business.

Other than that there are also a type of it called word of mouth in which is is spread from one person to another based on their experience with your service. Usually they talk about how much they adore and like your product and sharing it among their friends and families without being paid but purely out of their satisfaction from your product.
How to develop Marketing Strategy?
First of all, you should know what the goals of your business are so that you will be clear on what you will be achieving and would not waste time doing something that might be out of the context. Having goals will also let you figure out the best method that will work for your business be it in a long term or a short one.
Other than that, you have to know how do you make sure it will reach the audience? Creating a marketing strategy but if it does not reach out to your target audience then what would be the point? It would waste time, energy and budget if you have spend on it. Therefore, run out tests and see if your specific audience are able to interact with you and give you the desired response.
Aside from that, you should know your demographic and quantitative information. This is also important to help you reach to your audience better.
